The first step is to make sure you meet the visa requirements. If not, you can save yourself the effort of applying.

Collect Documentation
Next, you need to collect the necessary documents to proof that you meet the application conditions.
You’ll have to gather the following documents:
- Proof of employment or business ownership
- Proof of possibility to work remote

- Health insurance policy
- Copy passport (at least six months validity left)
- Passport style picture
Please note that the authorities always have the right to ask for additional documentation if they deem it necessary.
File Application Virtual Work Visa
You can file your application in two ways: online or in person.
You can file your application online via the website of the General Directorate of Residency and Foreigners Affairs Dubai. This is the best option if you are abroad. Therefore, you don’t have to visit the embassy or consulate which makes it convenient.
If you rather file your application in person and you are in Dubai, you can visit one of the AMER Service Centers.
Upon filing your application you’ll also be asked to pay the visa fees.
Obtain Emirates ID
If you are application is succesfull you are ready to complete the final steps.
You will now have to visit a medical center in Dubai to get your medical test done.
The medical center needs to be recognized by the Dubai Health Authority.
If your medical test doesn’t show any issues, you’ll receive your Emirates ID which is valid for one year.
Validity & Renewals of the Digital Nomad Visa in Dubai
The Virtual Work Visa for Dubai is valid for one year.
However, you can’t leave the country for more than six month in a row because then you’ll visa will become invalid.
You can’t renew the digital nomad visa but you can apply for a new visa if you still meet the criteria.
Cost and Timeline for the Visa Application
The total costs including the application fees, fee for your residency permit and the medical exam start at around $600.
However, in some cases the fee could be slightly higher.
The total timeline for completing the full process is between one and three weeks.
However, this also depends on when you can go to Dubai to complete the final steps (e.g. medical examination)

Tax Considerations for Digital Nomads in Dubai
If you spend a lot of time in Dubai, you can qualify as a tax resident. However, in the case of Dubai, this is not something to worry about.
Dubai doesn’t levy personal income taxes. So, qualifying as a tax resident, is actually a good thing.

Do I Become a Tax Resident of Dubai with the Digital Nomad Visa?
Solely obtaining the digital nomad visa is not sufficient to qualify as a tax resident of Dubai.
However, you can qualify if you spend 183 days in the country. Yet, if you want proof of your tax residency, you’ll also have to meet some other requirements.
Can I Bring My Family?
The Dubai digital nomad visa only gives the right to the applicant to live in Dubai. However, you after obtaining the visa, you can sponsor your family members to join you.
Therefore, they’ll have to make a separate application. In order to sponsor your family members, you’ll need to have secured a rental agreement registered with Ejari.
Furthermore, it’s important to know that their visa will automatically end if your visa ends.
What is the Minimum Income Threshold?
The minimum income threshold for the digital nomad visa in Dubai is $3.500.
Upon launch, the minimum income requirement was $5.000 but this is now lower. So, if you see the threshold of $5.000 being mentioned you know this information is outdated.
